Are you feeling a bit scattered?
Feeling like the chores are never-ending?
The dishes are always piling up, the laundry, kids' toys, pet hair...the list goes on! I feel you! I felt the same way for SOOOOO LONG!! Until one day, I had an idea. What if I put our home on a routine? What if I took control, and told my home who was boss? And BOOM! I made it happen, and YOU can make it happen too!
I needed an EASY routine to follow, and something that was attainable with our children, work-life, and just busyness in general. Maybe you are like me & you love to have fun, and structure doesn't always come easy to you. Maybe you’re more of a fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl, but for the sake of your sanity, I highly encourage you to take control of your home’s cleaning routine, & I promise, it’ll bring you some mental peace & space to tackle the rest of your to-do lists!
HERE’S HOW WE KEEP IT SIMPLE:
DAILY: PUT EVERYTHING BACK IN ORDER AT THE END OF THE DAY.
At the end of every day, get everything back in order. If you can have a place for everything in your home, this brings so much mental clarity, and it’s something you can get your entire family involved with. You DON’T need to do it all!
Load the dishwasher & run it. Wake up to fresh dishes!
Wipe down & sanitize the kitchen sink, counters, and kitchen table.
Sweep/vacuum kitchen floor & under the kitchen table.
Tidy all high traffic areas of the home.
Get the coffee pot ready.
MONDAY: DEEP CLEAN THE HOUSE.
I know this may sound like a lot, but trust me, if you clean your house weekly, the amount of time it takes is not that bad, and it brings so much peace to your home!
KITCHEN
-Wipe down & disinfect counters, sink, microwave, & tables making sure you’re getting underneath any items on the counter, and shining any items up that are on the counter. (Dust & grease can easily build up in the kitchen.) Shine stainless steel as necessary.
BATHROOMS
-Wipe down & disinfect counters, sink, shower & toilet. Depending upon what type of shower you have, you may need to use different tools & solutions to keep it clean & looking fresh, especially if it’s tile. Make sure you are wiping underneath all of the product bottles. I like to wipe down the product bottles and have them facing forward so that they look nice as well. Scrub & disinfect inside of the toilet, & shine mirror.
DUSTING
-If I were you, I’d invest in a good feather duster or Swiffer duster. This saves so much time, and does such a great job! Get a good dusting done throughout your home from top to bottom. I like to start in my laundry room, and then make a big circle around the house, ensuring that I’m not going back and forth and wasting a bunch of time. I would also suggest getting a microfiber rag damp with furniture polish ( murphy’s oil soap & water make a great polishing solution ) that way you’ve got it in your back pocket to shine up any tough spots you find along the way.
FLOORS
-Vacuum & mop your floors throughout. I love a vacuum that can go from hard surface to carpet, saves on time, and does a better job in my opinion. If that’s not an option, a broom will do just fine on the hard surface floors! The Swiffer Wet Jet is a great option to shine up the hard surface floors, but just make sure you use the proper solution depending on the type of floors you have in your home. Vinegar and water is always a great solution as well! Fresh floors bring so much peace!
GARBAGE/RECYCLING
-Gather all garbage & recycling throughout your home, and throw it out in your main bins to complete the clean.
TUESDAY/THURSDAY/SATURDAY: LAUNDRY.
Raise your hand if you and your laundry need some BOUNDARIES!! We have two young children, and between them, my husband and I, the towels...ALL OF IT...I had to give myself LAUNDRY BOUNDARIES. It's totally a thing, and it totally works!! Try it - I dare you!
SUNDAYS: WASH & CHANGE BEDDING.
Washing your bedding weekly is such a beautiful thing. There are so many health benefits to it, and in my opinion, sleeping in fresh sheets is one of the best feelings EVER! I needed to dedicate a day to this, because I'd always forget when I washed the sheets last, and to be honest, that's just kind of gross. So, dedicate a day to your bedding, and make it happen! You'll be thankful you did!
I hope this is helpful for you!
